Job Title: Bus Driver

 

Job Overview:

The bus driver will provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may benefit from the district’s curriculum and extracurricular programs and perform daily transportation duties for pupils of the school district.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • General understanding of public education
  • Experience preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must maintain appropriate Missouri Bus Driver’s License in accordance with the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education
  • Must pass annual Department of Transportation physical, drug, and alcohol testing

 

Other Working Conditions:

  • Salary based on experience, education, and/or as agreed by the Board of Education
  • Vacations, leave policies, and fringe benefits as stated in Board policies
  • “At will” employee with a contract period of 9-10 months
  • Reviewed annually with recommendation for re-employment by April 15
  • Reports to the Transportation Director and/or Building Principals

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Obeys all local and state traffic laws
  • Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
  • Maintains discipline on the buds and follows the proper procedures when discipline problems arise
  • Keeps the bus clean and turns in personal items left on the bus to the school offices
  • Keeps to the assigned schedule and receives permission from the transportation director or superintendent to alter the assigned schedule or route
  • Performs routine pre-trip inspections before the bus is operated
  • Notifies the maintenance director/transportation director/superintendent promptly of mechanical defects and lateness.
  • Discharges students only at authorized stops
  • Exercises responsible and professional leadership when on out-of-district school trips
  • Transports only authorized students
  • Supervises students responsibility while they are in his/her care
  • Refrain from the use of tobacco while in the bus, refrain from driving a school bus while under the influence of intoxicants, narcotics, or drugs, and conduct himself/herself in a manner so as to exercise good influence over pupils
  • Refrain from the use of cell phones while driving
  • Assist the transportation director with the creation of bus routes, if needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the transportation director, building principals, or superintendent
